What are PPAs?

PPAs, or “Power Purchase Agreements”, are contracts between a renewable energy producer and a consumer (off-taker). PPA contracts set the terms for selling renewable electricity from a producer to a consumer over a long period of time. They can last anywhere from 3 to over 25 years. Although it can technically apply to power purchase contracts for any type of energy, a “Power Purchase Agreement” typically refers to buying renewable energy.

For the producer, signing a PPA with a off-taker is a guarantee of future income, which is essential for obtaining financing their project.

Development process of PPA projects

During the initial phase of a project, we conceptualize the future asset, search for a plot of land, and conduct studies to secure all necessary permits. Simultaneously, we look for off-takers with whom to sign a PPA. Identifying an off-taker is a crucial step to demonstrate the project’s potential to investors and secure funding for building the asset.
